In the year since, Google has deepened its foray into military contracting, dropping its pledge not to build AI for weapons/surveillance, acquiring Israeli cloud security start-up Wiz, partnering with CBP to update towers by Israeli war contractor Elbit Systems with AI at the US-Mexico border, and launching an AI partnership with Lockheed Martin.
Emma shares NOTA’s position on the responsibility of tech workers in the face of worker repression & escalating, AI-powered fascism & genocide: Only a strong, organized mass base of workers taking collective action together can end the militarization of Google and tech at large.
“Workers have always resisted the weaponization of technology, from the United Farm Workers leveraging boycotts and labor strikes to the Black American workers who organized the Polaroid Revolutionary Workers Movement against the use of Polaroid film technology in the passbooks of apartheid South Africa (and won).
Here, we can find a basis for treating solidarity as a workplace condition and organizing issue, and a way of building the necessary power not only to make small gains but to upend the power dynamic that allows our bosses to prioritize a genocide over our own voices.
To my fellow Google workers: If we don’t act now, we will be conscripted into this administration’s fascist and cruel agenda: deporting immigrants and dissidents, stripping people of reproductive rights, rewriting the rules of our government and economy to favor big tech billionaires, and continuing to power the genocide of Palestinians.
As tech workers, we have a moral responsibility to resist complicity and the militarization of our work before it’s too late.”

NEW—Google announced an AI partnership with Lockheed Martin, the world’s largest military company, days before news came out of its new project with Trump’s US Customs & Border Protection to “upgrade the so-called virtual border wall,” by outfitting border towers previously built by infamous Israeli military contractor Elbit with Google’s AI capabilities.
Statement from Google Workers with #NoTechForApartheid:
Google execs want the world to know: Google is a weapons contractor. With this announcement, Google formalizes its war sales machine, and cedes control of how its technology is used to Lockheed Martin: the world’s largest military company.
Google will provide generative artificial intelligence technology to power missiles & bombs. Google is selling its technology to help Lockheed Martin more effectively and efficiently surveil, displace, and kill people across the globe.
A few days after this announcement, the Intercept reported that genocidaire & Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian is once again colluding with the Trump administration’s fascist policies, weaponizing Google tech to imprison, deport, and destroy our immigrant, Palestinian, trans, Muslim, Black, & Latine communities with its new contract with U.S. Customs and Border Protection to “upgrade the so-called virtual wall.”
We call on our Google coworkers to join us in stopping the military exploitation of our labor & in opposing Google’s complicity in the U.S. prison and deportation machine and Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza.
Silence will not keep us safe. Solidarity keeps us safe. Workers will not stand for our labor being weaponized for the Trump administration’s fascist policies to criminalize, deport, and destroy our immigrant, Palestinian, trans, Muslim, Black, & Latine communities.
Google must drop Project Nimbus. And just as we condemn Israel’s apartheid walls––Google must also end its partnership with the virtual-wall fanatic CBP immediately.
Worker power can end this.

Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian, genocidaire and warmonger, is once again colluding with the Trump administration’s fascist policies, weaponizing our technology to criminalize, deport, and destroy our immigrant, Palestinian, trans, Muslim, Black, & Latine communities with its new contract with U.S. Customs and Border Protection to “upgrade the so-called virtual wall,” as reported on Friday by the Intercept.
This project will upgrade & outfit old towers purchased from infamous Israeli military contractor Elbit with Google’s sophisticated machine learning capabilities to detect and track humans and vehicles, and ultimately supercharge the ongoing atrocities at the border. This is the same surveillance and AI tech that are being used to brutalize Palestinian communities under Israel’s apartheid state & to wage a genocide in Gaza and the same tech the US government is actively using to repress, criminalize, and deport pro-Palestinian student organizers.

NEW — Reporting from @middleeasteye on Google's $32B acquisition of Israeli start-up, Wiz, founded by former Unit 8200 agents.
Last week, mere hours after Israel escalated its violations of the ceasefire and unilaterally broke the agreement in full force, bombing Gaza and murdering hundreds of Palestinians, Google formally announced its acquisition of Wiz. Wiz is an Israeli cloud security startup founded by former members of Unit 8200, the Israeli military’s infamous clandestine intelligence unit.
Anna Bacciarelli, a senior researcher in Human Rights Watch’s technology rights and investigations division, said this acquisition signals Google's attempts at deepening ties to the Trump administration and Israel by prioritising AI for national security. "The acquisition of Wiz, a cybersecurity firm founded by ex-members of Unit 8200, further entrenches Google’s stakes in AI-driven military technology," Bacciarelli told MEE. “Unit 8200 has developed and deployed mass surveillance and technology systems that are incompatible with human rights. Google’s investment in Unit 8200 alumni raises serious concerns about its potential complicity in human rights abuses."
Matt Mahmoudi, a researcher on AI and human rights for Amnesty International, echoed Bacciarelli's concerns and said the inclusion of a company dominated by Unit 8200 veterans was "deeply concerning". "Despite clear warnings from human rights experts that these technologies could contribute to genocide, Google continues its engagement with Israeli authorities, showing a blatant disregard for international human rights law. The acquisition of a company that will further bolster projects like Nimbus only heightens the risk of exacerbating Israel's system of apartheid and repression."

BREAKING—SOUTH BAY COMMUNITY SAYS: NO GENOCIDE PROFITEERS IN THE BAY AREA! Anonymous autonomous protesters target the home of Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian in response to Google Cloud’s acquisition of Israeli start-up Wiz as Israel escalates its genocide of the Palestinian people.
Early this AM, actionists hung banners outside Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian’s multi-million dollar house in Atherton and the overpass outside of his Sunnyvale Office. This action comes in response to Google Cloud’s $33B acquisiton of Wiz, which was announced last week by Cloud executives mere hours after Israel escalated its violations of the ceasefire, bombing Gaza and so far murdering 900+ Palestinians. Wiz was founded by former members of Unit 8200, the IOF’s cyber-espionage & surveillance unit, and the acquisition will lead to the largest transfer of Israeli intelligence operatives into Big Tech in history.
Thomas Kurian directly oversaw this acquisition. His commitment to keep investing in a genocidal state can only be expected from the same “leader” who signed off on Google’s $1.2B Project Nimbus contract with Israel despite concerns from his own human rights advisors. This is a disgusting and desperate move by Kurian to remedy his failure as CEO to increase Google’s market share of the cloud industry & surpass its Amazon rival.
Thomas Kurian & Google CEO Sundar Pichai are among the reigning tech oligarchs who — after gleefully providing the tech that Israel has used to slaughter Palestinians — have cozied up to Trump’s fascist admin. As the Trump admin entrenches fascism at home & re-escalates the genocide in Gaza, with AI reportedly now being used to surveil anti-genocide protesters to criminalize/detain/deport them— our communities see clearly who is responsible for fueling this violence & taking commensurate action.
Genocide profiteers have names & addresses. They live in our neighborhoods. Community members are showing up in support of worker demands to drop Project Nimbus & stop doing business with Israel, making it known that war criminals are not welcome in our neighborhoods.

BREAKING—@GOOGLE ACQUIRES ISRA*LI START-UP WIZ, SIGNALS ITS CONTINUED INVESTMENT IN ISRAELI APARTHEID & ITS COMMITMENT TO GENOCIDE PROFITEERING.
Yesterday, mere hours after Israel escalated its violations of the ceasefire and unilaterally broke the agreement in full force, bombing Gaza and murdering over 400 Palestinians, Google formally announced its acquisition of Wiz. Wiz is an Israeli cloud security startup founded by former members of Unit 8200, the Israeli military’s infamous clandestine intelligence unit.
Google’s acquisition of Wiz is yet another example of the company’s ongoing antitrust violations. While mired in antitrust lawsuits, Google spent a whopping $33 billion to acquire Wiz—the most expensive acquisition for the corporation to date. Emboldened by its coziness with the Trump administration, Google is playing with fire and trusting that its performative overtures toward new leadership in the country will protect it.
But changing political winds will not deter us. As workers, we remain steadfast in our commitment to force the company to end Project Nimbus and end its business with Israel.

NEW — Pentagon signs AI deal to help commanders plan military maneuvers using @Google AI technology.
This week, the Washington Post reported on a new contract called "Thunderforge," which will allow U.S. military commanders to use AI tools to plan and help execute movements of ships, planes, and other military assets. The contract will be led by the start-up Scale AI, and AI tools from Microsoft and Google will be integrated into weapons developer Anduril's systems for use in the contract. This deal comes off the heels of Google executives' dismantling of the company's AI Principles, which were written to prevent Google technology from being sold for weapons or surveillance.
By dismantling the AI Principles and collaborating directly with weapons developers and the imperialist U.S. military, this deal reflects the greater trend of Big Tech companies becoming the infrastructure of the US military industrial complex and powering state violence worldwide. Sundar Pichai @sundarpichai , Satya Nadella, and other tech oligarchs — who gleefully provided the tech that Israel used to slaughter Palestinians for over a year — continue to deepen their connection to fascism during the current Trump administration.
This move further shows us what we’ve long stated: Tech is not neutral. AI is not neutral. AI is a weapon in the hands of corporations who see no problem in profiting from empire and state violence. Big Tech’s deepening of their partnerships with imperial military forces shows us that we must resist technosolutionist narratives at every turn.
It’s CRUCIAL that tech workers worldwide ensure that internationalist solidarity becomes a workplace conditions issue, and a basis for our organizing. We must build the necessary power not only to make small gains but to upend the power dynamic that allows our bosses to prioritize profiting from genocide and empire over worker voices.
We call on all tech workers of conscience to join the fight for reclaiming our labor against tech for empire, genocide, and apartheid.

GOOGLE GOES FULL MASK OFF // A call to action from Google workers with the #NoTechForApartheid Campaign——
Last week, @Google execs dismantled the company’s AI principles on weapons and surveillance and rolled back the company’s DEI programs to align with the racist policies & repression being implemented by the Trump admin. Google execs have prioritized profit via lucrative military contracts and alignment with a fascist administration over worker trust & safety.
They are positioning the company to build products that will power state violence, apartheid regimes, & active warfighting. These systems target Black, brown, Palestinian, immigrant, Muslim, disabled, & trans communities globally.
Far from coincidental, these two moves are deeply related — the move to dismantle DEI programs was made to insulate government contracts from “risk”. The bulk of government spending on tech services is spent through the military. Of gov contracts involving AI, 90% of contract value is from the DoD
Despite the PR rhetoric about countering bias in their tech, Google execs only care to publicly hold those ideals when it is profitable for them. Google's “commitment” to just, ethical work was always toothless PR.
These alarming decisions were made possible by Google doubling down on Project Nimbus while Israel carried out a live-streamed genocide of Palestinians in Gaza. It was a brazen Google Cloud sales demo: for 15 months, the Israeli military openly celebrated the key role of Google AI in the murder of Palestinians. Google now has a clear case study to point to when selling to militaries
We must take up our positionality as workers to ensure Google doesn't devolve into a full-blown AI military machine that helps create & power the state violence, climate catastrophe, & worsening global crises of this century
To our bosses: Workers will keep building power together to control & redirect our labor before Google tech becomes even more catastrophic to our communities & our world.
As Google workers, we believe it's our moral & ethical responsibility to the world to fight back.

BREAKING—@Google rushed to provide its AI tools to the Israeli military immediately after October 7th, and has continued to provide this tech since.
This AI includes Google Vertex & Gemini AI. Critically, part of this push came from an urgent effort to beat out Amazon, Google’s main competitor in cloud, and the other beneficiary of Project Nimbus
The reporting officially debunks Google’s lies to workers & press that Nimbus isn’t directed at highly sensitive, classified, or military workloads
The IOF has killed 186,000+ Palestinians in Gaza (likely a massively under-reported number); and products like Vertex and Gemini are not used just for tasks like email or payroll. According to Israel itself, Google’s cloud has “directly aided combat applications,” potentially enabling the likes of “Habsora,” an AI technology that the Israeli military developed to provide thousands of human and infrastructure targets to bomb throughout its genocide against Gaza.
Some questions remain: What role did Google AI products play in Israel’s genocide against Gaza? What role will they continue to play in Israel’s apartheid state, which despite a ceasefire agreement, continues to surveil, track, police, punish, & kill Palestinians? How are these AI tools connected to Lavender, the AI targeting system that powered Israel’s bomb targeting in Gaza? How do these AI tools fit into the IOF’s revitalized West Bank assault, as Israel forces storm cities like Jenin leaving Palestinian bodies in their wake?
We demand action from Google executives. We refuse to have our labor be used to power apartheid & genocide. We demand an end to this depraved contract that’s powered the destruction of Gaza over the last 15 months.
We didn’t sign up to work for a military contractor or for genocide profiteers. As our world marches toward fascism—with the full backing of the tech industry & its billionaires—we won’t stop organizing at this company until workers have a real say over how the technology we build is used in the world.
Our fight is far from over.

NO TECH FOR FASCISM——Tech billionaires who power Israel’s apartheid state and the genocide in Gaza attend Trump’s inauguration yesterday, in a stunning show of Big Tech’s unified support for fascism.
To no one’s surprise, tech oligarchs including Amazon Executive Chairman and Founder Jeff Bezos and Google CEO Sundar Pichai — who gleefully provided the tech that Israel used to slaughter Palestinians for over a year — are ushering in Trump’s fascist policies here at home, including the mass deportations of immigrants slated to start in Chicago, NYC, and beyond today.
Also in attendance was Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who recently ended all fact-checking on his platforms, TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew who directly gave Trump political points for “saving” TikTok from being banned (despite Trump leading the effort to ban TikTok back in 2020), Apple CEO Tim Cook, and Open AI’s Sam Altman. Of course, Elon Musk also attended and ended his speech with a N*zi salute.
It is all connected: the tech tools that power Israeli apartheid and violence against Palestinians abroad via @Google and @Amazon’s $1.2B cloud computing contract with Israel called Project Nimbus, are part of the same suite of tech tools that are being used and will be used against Black, brown, Muslim, immigrant, queer, and trans communities in the U.S. After Amazon, Google, and other tech workers demonstrated historic strength in building labor power against genocidal tech in 2024, the ruling class has strengthened their ties with fascism.
FROM TURTLE ISLAND TO PALESTINE, solidarity is the answer. Make no mistake. The time is now for tech workers to build mass labor power against fascist tech to resist complicity. Our lives depend on it.
No tech for deportations. No tech for abortion bans. No tech for the surveillance and criminalization of trans people. No tech for sweeps of homeless encampments. No tech for apartheid or genocide.
