Why no AI data centers? Across the US, Big Tech billionaires are racing to build out sprawling, thirsty data centers to power AI, in order to cement their wealth and power far into the future. Unless we take action now, Big Tech’s data centers will reverse hard-won climate gains, raising our energy bills, and these few corporations will continue to steer humanity’s technological progress toward a short-term, profit-driven, and increasingly militaristic vision of the future.
Right now, Big Tech is working hand in hand with the Trump administration to secure energy and land for data centers over community objections, as these corporations ink new deals to provide advanced technology to power the administration’s authoritarian aims. This past June, @Google executives quietly signed a $45M ads contract with the Israeli apartheid government to spread propaganda falsely denying Israel’s genocide & forced starvation of Palestinians in Gaza.
Along with Google’s cloud & AI capabilities, Google’s Ad machine — the biggest and most powerful in the world — is now in the supply chain of Israel’s genocide.
This new reporting by @DropSiteNews reveals that Israel started planning PR damage control the moment it announced its blockade in March. As Israel’s siege on Gaza starves Palestinians to death each day, Google is enabling Israel’s genocidal crusade with another weapon of genocide: a global platform to spread propaganda. Google is now leveraging its massive advertising network to deny an ongoing genocide and shield those responsible, deny its forced starvation in Gaza, discredit the UN’s accurate descriptions of Israel’s genocide & war crimes, and falsely accuse the UN of “deliberate sabotage” of aid delivery into Gaza.
The appalling lies in Israel’s ads stand in contrast to the true intentions of the government, whose leaders like Bezalel Smotrich gave the following orders to the Israeli military: “No water, no electricity. [Palestinians] can die of hunger or surrender.”
Google’s investment in Israel’s military infrastructure represents its continuous buy-in to the Israeli war machine. These investments are driven by pure profit motive: through this ads contract, Google execs are developing further incentives for the company to enable genocide. Google will continue enabling the genocide by any and all means at executives’ disposal, including by hosting Israel’s false, propaganda ads, until its financial interests through Project Nimbus are ended.
As Google workers, we have a duty to categorically reject & resist our company’s complicity in genocide. Sustained and escalating worker action is one of the few levers that can end Google’s obscene & growing partnership with the Israeli death machine.

NO MILITARY RULE IN DC // STATEMENT FROM DMV TECH WORKERS WITH NO TECH FOR APARTHEID—This week, Trump announced the federal takeover of Washington, DC, including control of DC’s police force and the deployment of over 800 national guard troops to occupy and patrol our city’s streets. This is a clear attack on DC Home Rule and on the sovereignty of a Black and progressive city. It’s a move by Trump to test a more centralized model of fascist control — starting with LA, now DC, and soon extending beyond the District. DC is not a state, so it’s not given the same protections and rights as states. That’s why Trump is targeting our district using bogus, racist lies about “violent crime” while crime in DC just hit a 30-year low.
DC is already the most policed city and the second-most surveilled city in the US — it’s been clear through the exchange of surveillance technology between Israel and US federal agencies and in the #DeadlyExchange of tactics between the IOF and US police forces that this is the imperial boomerang in action. We know that our most vulnerable communities, immigrants and the unhoused, will be targeted first. Big Tech companies like Google and Amazon, which have cozied to the Trump administration and taken on new US military and immigration enforcement contracts, will likely be corporate enablers of this violence, just like their Project Nimbus contract with the Israeli apartheid state powers Israel’s occupation of Palestine.
Federalizing DC’s police force and deploying the National Guard is not for anyone’s safety, it’s to sow fear in our communities. We know that only solidarity can keep us safe. The people of DC know how to resist and we will fight back against this authoritarian power grab. We demand that federal and military forces occupying DC leave our district now, and we demand statehood and protections for DC.

Protestors at AWS Summit in DC call for an end to Amazon’s complicity in militarized violence. The demonstrators disrupted Amazon’s keynote address at AWS Summit today, held by the current VP of Amazon’s public sector operations. Amazon holds government contracts that are used to enable the US military and Israeli Occupation Forces to engage in acts of violence against civilian populations.
Project Nimbus is a $1.2 billion contract, allowing Amazon and Google to be the sole cloud computing providers for the IOF. Amazon opened their data center in Tel Aviv to support the contract in the summer of 2023. In February 2024, the head of Israel’s national cyber directorate praised and credited Project Nimbus for helping with their military operations in Gaza.
Amazon advertises that they provide over 185 services under their contract with Nimbus. They specifically call out machine learning, artificial intelligence, robotics and satellite technology as services that they offer to the IOF. This in turn enables mass surveillance of the oppressed Palestinian people and improves missile targeting systems to maximize the damage inflicted on Gaza’s people and infrastructure. As the disruptor so clearly stated: "AWS is being used to host the first AI powered genocide! You are killing children. You are responsible for this genocide."
State-sanctioned violence done by the IOF against Palestinians, aid workers and journalists continues to escalate after over 600 days of devastation in Gaza. State-sanctioned violence permeates domestically as well, as local militarized police departments and National Guard troops brutalize civilians engaging in peaceful protests in cities across the country. We demand that Amazon end their complicity in violence and genocide by cancelling their contract with Project Nimbus.

HONORING GOOGLE IS A STEP TOWARD PRIVATIZING PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS: Private donors such as Google are encroaching on our public institutions. As a union-busting monopoly that manipulates and monetizes access to information, Google stands against the core tenets of public libraries. BPL has not disclosed how much funding it receives from Google, and to what extent it plans to embed Google in library operations. How much money did BPL sell out itself, its staff, and its patrons for? We call on BPL to pursue ethical funding that is subject to public, not corporate, influence.

NEW: Ex-Google worker Mohammad Khatami, who was arrested and fired after No Tech for Apartheid’s worker sit-ins in April 2024, shares updates from the last couple months that shows us loud and clear that Google is a weapons contractor. Earlier this year, Google announced its acquisition of Wiz, an israeli cloud cybersecurity company. A week later, Google announced a collaboration with Lockheed Martin, the world’s largest weapons manufacturing company. Afterwards, The Intercept revealed plans from United States Customs and Border Patrol to upgrade Elbit’s “virtual wall” using Google Cloud technology.

BREAKING — @theintercept reports on new internal Google documents that reveal Google leadership explicitly knew that they would have no control or human rights oversight into Israel's use of Google technology — and yet signed the deal anyway.

In spring 2022, workers at an Amazon fulfillment center in Staten Island made history: they voted to form the first ever labor union at the tech giant. Following their fight from the beginning, UNION is an intimate portrait of the people, connections, and commitment that brought together thousands of workers without the support of major labor unions or politicians.
