Our bosses — Amazon executives — have refused to come to the bargaining table with unionized workers, & so workers have courageously authorized the largest strike against Amazon in history
Amazon warehouse workers & delivery drivers are the backbone of the Amazon marketplace machine — fulfilling millions of Amazon orders each day for the public and creating billions of dollars of profit for Amazon shareholders. Amazon has created inhumane working conditions for these workers through a system of punishment and surveillance, where our colleagues are monitored, pushed to meet unsafe robot-level quotas and forced to pee in water bottles. As a result, some of our colleagues will have lifelong injuries
Just last week, a Senate committee investigation revealed that Amazon intentionally manipulated workplace injury data — and that Amazon warehouses have twice the serious injury rate as other warehouses. Amazon warehouse workers urgently deserve a contract — their safety and well-being depends on it.
Every day, we organize against Amazon’s $1.2B Project Nimbus cloud contract with Israel that is powering the genocide in Gaza & enabling Israel’s apartheid state. The same technology that Amazon sells to Israel via Project Nimbus to surveil and kill Palestinians is the same suite of tech tools that they use to monitor, oppress, and inflict violence upon their own workers at warehouses on Turtle Island & beyond.
Our fights are deeply interconnected; our struggles for dignified lives and against oppressive structures are intertwined. We commit to uplift & support our coworkers at Amazon warehouses through this historic collective action and stand beside them against our bosses’ corporate greed.

NEW from @middleeasteye — Google has been matching employee donations to pro-Israeli groups in the US, including Friends of the Israeli Defence Forces (FIDF) and HaYovel. HaYovel is a Christian Zionist organization based in Missouri that sends volunteers to further the “prophetic tradition” by working on farms in illegal settlements on occupied Palestinian land.
Middle East Eye also reports on new documents that revealed Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian and other Google execs knew Project Nimbus would violate human rights and signed off anyways, putting Google’s military contracting aspirations over Palestinian lives. Despite warnings and risk assessments from Google’s own lawyers and advisors, Kurian signed onto Project Nimbus despite the contract not being subject to Google’s own Ethical AI Principles and regular terms of service. Kurian has ensured that Google tech would power Israel’s apartheid state, and now its genocide of Palestinians in Gaza.
They quote from our statement released on Tuesday: “Google ignored its own human rights consultants and lawyers who raised concerns about cloud permitted uses, AI principles, reputational risk, conflict with international authorities, and non-compliance with international human rights law... For years, Google has trotted out the same copy-and-pasted statement in response to mounting employee dissent against Project Nimbus.” We will not stop organizing until Google and Amazon drop Nimbus and until Palestine is free.

BREAKING — @GOOGLE PREZ OF GLOBAL AFFAIRS KENT WALKER LIES, PEOPLE DIE
Reporting by @theintercept reveals that Project Nimbus is NOT bound by Google's general cloud computing terms of service policy, which prohibits uses that lead to deprivation of rights, injury, or death. Rather, Nimbus is subject to an "adjusted" policy favorable to the Israeli government. This is despite Google President of Global Affairs Kent Walker's repeated statements that Israel is bound to Google's Terms of Service and Acceptable Use Policy—a lie that has been used to dismiss worker concerns over Project Nimbus's weaponization in Israel's genocide on Gaza.
According to a Google lawyer, Israel has "unilateral right to impose contract changes" and that Google retains "almost no ability to sue [Israel] for damages" stemming from "permitted uses... breaches." Further, Israeli government contract documents reveal that the company's standard ToS don't apply and are replaced by an "adjusted" ToS, and that Israel "may make any use of any service included in [Google's] catalog of services." Another doc contradicts Google's lie that Nimbus is not directed towards sensitive military workloads, stating: "There will be no restrictions on the part of [Google] as to the type of system and information that [Israel] may migrate to the service, including vital systems of high sensitivity level."
Google leadership signing away any oversight of their workers' labor to the genocidal Israeli state may result in consequences under international law. @abolitionistlc and No Tech for Apartheid have made submissions to the United Nations Special Rapporteur's call for info on private sector involvement in "the commission of international crimes connected to Israel's unlawful occupation, racial segregation and apartheid regime."
No matter what Google executives do, its workers—the ones who actually make the company run—will not stop organizing until Google stops powering the genocide of Palestinians and until Palestine is free. With over 186,000 Palestinians in Gaza murdered by Israel’s bombs, our demand could not be more urgent.

The @googlecloud CEO is a key figure in Big Tech’s contributions to deploying AI for occupation & genocide, providing cutting-edge cloud computing technology to Israel’s apartheid state and military. By signing onto Project Nimbus, Google and Amazon’s $1.1B cloud contract with the Zionist entity, and then further expanding the contract with additional $1M agreements with the IOF while it conducts a genocide, Thomas Kurian has solidified his place as a war profiteer & genocide enabler. The Israel-U.S. genocide in Gaza and Israel’s attacks on Lebanon would not be possible without Google and Amazon’s cloud computing infrastructure.
Thomas Kurian is also responsible for enabling a culture of fear & harassment towards Google’s Palestinian, Arab, and Muslim workers, who have been targeted by HR and doxxed by other employees. When Google workers held sit-ins at his office in Sunnyvale to protest this harassment and Project Nimbus, Kurian immediately fired 50 of these workers. Workers continue to speak up at the company against Kurian and his weaponization of their labor for apartheid and genocide.

NEW—@theintercept reports on the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) buying cloud computing and OpenAI services directly from Microsoft as part of its $9 billion Joint Warfighting Cloud Capability contract. This marks the first confirmed purchase of OpenAI’s products by “a U.S. combatant command whose mission is one of killing,” with AFRICOM stating that the “ability to support advanced AI/ML workloads is crucial.”
AFRICOM is an arm of US imperialism across Africa and is regularly implicated in African coup d’états, civilian killings, torture, and covert warfare. The sale of OpenAI and Microsoft cloud tools to AFRICOM reflects the greater trend of Big Tech companies becoming the infrastructure of the US military industrial complex and powering state violence worldwide.
This move shows us what we’ve long stated: Tech is not neutral. AI is not neutral. AI is a weapon in the hands of corporations who see no problem in profiting from empire and state violence.
Big Tech’s deepening of their partnerships with imperial military forces shows us that we must resist technosolutionist narratives at every turn.
This news follows major resistance from tech workers against the weaponization of their labor to power imperialist military violence. On October 24, two of our comrades — Microsoft workers from the @NoAzureforApartheid campaign — were fired for hosting a vigil honoring Palestinian martyrs and calling attention to Microsoft’s complicity in Israel’s genocide in Gaza by selling Azure tools to the IOF. Despite the repression, there is a growing movement of tech workers globally who won’t stop organizing until our companies stop powering imperialist violence in Africa, Palestine, and beyond.
It’s CRUCIAL that tech workers worldwide ensure that internationalist solidarity becomes a workplace conditions issue, and a basis for our organizing. We must build the necessary power not only to make small gains but to upend the power dynamic that allows our bosses to prioritize profiting from genocide and empire over worker voices.
We call on all tech workers of conscience to join the fight for reclaiming our labor against tech for empire, genocide, and apartheid.

DMV DIGITAL SECURITY TRAINING 💻 - Join us next Mon November 18 at the MLK Jr. Memorial in Room 401-E from 6:30-8pm to learn how we can keep ourselves and our communities safe through better digital security practices. 2024 has left the political landscape increasingly uncertain, but we know that if we are aware of the threats and how to protect ourselves against them, we can continue the fight for liberation.
This training is for people of all backgrounds, with an emphasis on how to keep our movements safe. We’ll cover tips and tools to protect your accounts, personal data, and communications, and highlight how @Google & @Amazon’s Project Nimbus contract with the Israeli military helps power surveillance of Palestinians and how that technology is then exported across the world to surveil our communities and to criminalize dissent.
This training is also an opportunity for tech workers in the DMV to meet DMV-area No Tech For Apartheid organizers and learn how we can use our labor power to end tech partnerships that power occupation, genocide, and colonialism.

The racist harassment of Palestinian, Arab, and Muslim Google workers by Zionist colleagues through confrontations, mass falsified HR reports, and doxxing has gone largely unaddressed by Google.
In an aggressive & desperate act of retaliation, Google fired 50 workers, including non-participating bystanders, as a response to April 16th’s historic, coast-to-coast sit-ins that took place inside Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian’s office in Sunnyvale and at Google NYC. Through this historic, worker action — the first of its kind in tech — Google workers w the #NoTechForApartheid campaign demanded that their employer cut its $1.2B Project Nimbus contract with Israel. In the aftermath of the sit-in, Google fired 50 workers in an unprecedented act of mass retaliation and called for the arrest of 9 workers who refused to disperse until Nimbus was dropped.

GLORY TO THE MARTYR SHABAN AL-DALOU—No Tech For Apartheid organizer and former Google Software Engineer Mohammad Khatami shares a personal and political reflection on the martyrdom of Shaban, a 19-year-old software engineering student in Gaza who was burned alive by an Israeli strike at Al Aqsa Hospital last week. He was asleep in a tent, still recovering from wounds from an Israeli strike the previous week.

It is this same tech that is killing young people like Shaban, who had invested his future in the hope that tech promises.
On today’s #ShutDownTech day of action, we honor his memory by strengthening our fight against tech for genocide. As tech workers organizing against Amazon and Google’s $1B cloud contract with Israel, we call on all tech workers to join us. We will not stop organizing until our bosses at Google and Amazon stop powering Israel’s brutal, horrific genocide of the Palestinian people.
Khatami writes: “I wonder what Shaban would’ve learned if he had the chance to study software engineering here in the U.S.
I fear he would have realized that engineering in the West is a military enterprise, an industry where innovation is driven by U.S. greed. I think he would have been devastated to learn that it’s U.S.-made software that powers the genocide in Palestine.
To many engineers in the West, the “best practices” & “ethics” we learned don’t seem to matter anymore. Our commitments to building & innovating responsibly are so lost that we no longer care if we kill our coworkers, peers, or users with the code we write. We keep our eyes on our screens. We keep our fingers on our keyboards. We say we have no power to make it stop.
I wish more engineers could be like Shaban—someone who chose ethics and action over despair. I wish I and other worker-organizers in the No Tech For Apartheid campaign could have met him. But even though he is gone, his memory strengthens us to continue the fight against empire.”

October 7th marks ONE YEAR of genocide, powered by @Google and @Amazon through Project Nimbus, a $1.2 billion dollar cloud computing contract with the Israeli military and government. Over the last year, workers have responded to tech’s role in the genocide by engaging in labor organizing across the industry to demand that Big Tech end their profit and complicity in military contracts. Earlier this year, Google retaliated against and fired over 50 workers for staging historic coast-to-coast sit-ins against the company’s deception of workers and disregard for human life with the following demands: cut all ties to Israel, drop Project Nimbus and end your complicity in the genocide.
In the last couple weeks, hundreds of people in Lebanon have been murdered in the brutal israeli bombing and pager/radio explosion attacks. In these dangerous and terrifying violations of international law, we see the continued expansion and normalization of tech-enabled terrorism and genocide. This comes just 2 months after the IT for IDF conference, sponsored by Google Cloud, where the israeli occupation forces openly discussed expanding the application of military technology to Lebanon.
As tech workers, we have collective labor power to stand in solidarity with Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and all those resisting settler colonialism by directly pressuring our government and the forces of capitalism that perpetuate imperialist violence. We heed the call from the Palestinian Federation of General Trade Unions-Gaza (PFGTU-Gaza), who have called on U.S. unions and labor organizations to end our complicity and to stop arming “Israel.” This Monday, October 7th, let’s continue to build our power to disrupt the war machine: Get to a picket in the morning, join us for our pre-rally, march with WOL, and bring your coworkers with you!
