BREAKING—This morning @TIME confirmed that Google lied to its own workers, consumers & the press for years, is in fact providing direct cloud computing services to the Israeli Ministry of Defense & the Israeli Occupation Forces, and has ACTIVELY DEEPENED its partnership with Israeli military during the genocide in Gaza, signing a new $1M agreement as recently as THREE WEEKS AGO.
THAT IS WHY @google workers will lead URGENT #NoTechForGen0c1de rallies in NYC, Seattle, Sunnyvale on April 16 to demand Google to stop profiting from the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza.

Just this week, TIME reported that 2 more Googlers resigned from the company because of their $1B Project Nimbus contract. Eddie Hatfield, a Google Cloud engineer & NOTA activist, was fired in March after their disruption of a Google-sponsored Israeli tech conference. Shortly after, Vidana Abdel Khalek, a Trust & Safety Policy Employee at Google, resigned in protest of the contract after seeing Google’s clear-cut retaliation against Eddie.
Through Nimbus, Google is aiding & abetting Israel’s genocide of Palestinians in Gaza. The IOF is also using Google Photos as part of a facial recognition dragnet across Gaza. @theintercept reports that this led to 1000s of Palestinians being arrested, imprisoned, & tortured w/ little to no evidence. It’s crystal clear that the IOF will use any technology available to them for genocidal means.
Instead of dropping its contract with a genocidal regime, Google is punching down on its own workers and deepening its partnership with Israel. That’s why we need to have these workers’ backs as they continue to organize to demand their employer stop powering this genocide and stop the harassment, intimidation, and censorship of Palestinian, Arab, and Muslim Googlers.
Join us on April 16! PLEASE wear a mask for public health and to protect each other from state surveillance.

BREAKING—Two @Google workers just quit the company in protest of its $1B cloud contract with Israel, @TIME reports in their new #NoTechForApartheid feature. Eddie Hatfield, the 23 y/o @GoogleCloud Engineer & NOTA organizer who was fired last month after disrupting a Google-sponsored Israeli tech conference has also gone public for the first time since their firing.
Seeing Google fire Hatfield has enraged workers. It confirmed to Google Trust & Safety Policy Employee Vidana Abdel Khalek, one of the 2 workers who just quit, that she should resign. On March 25, she emailed company execs, announcing her decision to quit in protest over Nimbus. “No one came to Google to work on offensive military technology,” she wrote in her email, which noted that Israel had killed over 13K children since the beginning of the genocide; that Israel had fired upon Palestinians attempting to reach humanitarian aid shipments; & had fired upon convoys of evacuating refugees. “Through Nimbus, your organization provides cloud AI technology to this government and is thereby contributing to these horrors,” the email said.
By continuing to stifle worker dissent, Google is evading accountability for enabling Israel’s genocide in Gaza. A Google spokesperson denied, yet again, that the contract includes "military applications," but @theintercept and other outlets have repeatedly debunked that lie, highlighting that Nimbus training documents, an Israeli Ministry of Finance press release, & Israel's National Digital agency all confirm Project Nimbus' military applications.
As @googlecloud next conference in Las Vegas is set to start today, Google workers remind their employer that they will NOT allow business as usual while Google continues to profit from the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza

NEW — an Israeli official told the @nytimes that the Israeli military is using Google Photos' consumer image organization platform as part of a facial recognition dragnet across Gaza. @theintercept reports that this mass surveillance of Palestinian faces has led to thousands of Palestinians being arrested, imprisoned, and tortured with little to no evidence.
Google leadership has yet to comment on the use of their technology for state surveillance and zionist state violence, despite this being a clear violation of our policies and the Conflict Sensitive Human Rights Due Diligence framework for ICT companies. Google workers with the #NoTechForApartheid campaign strongly condemn the use of our technology and labor by the Israeli military, and we demand that Google leadership take steps to ensure that our technology is not used to power apartheid and genocide. That the Israeli military is weaponizing a consumer product for their surveillance apparatus proves that they will use any technology available to them for violent means, and we demand that Google ceases all activity that supports the Israeli government and military's genocidal agenda to decimate Gaza.

On March 4, 600+ @Google workers signed an internal letter demanding the company withdraw its sponsorship of the MindTheTech conference celebrating Israeli technology. New York City Mayor Eric Adams spoke at the conference, an action that brings to mind the NYPD’s connections to the IOF, who is still perpetuating the genocide in occupied Palestine.
At 10:00am, a Google Cloud engineer and NOTA organizer, as well as a @jvpny organizer, disrupted remarks by Barak Regev, managing director of Google Israel, demanding an end to tech that perpetuates apartheid and genocide. The two disruptors were referring to Project Nimbus, Google and @Amazon ‘s 1.2B dollar contract with the Israeli government and military.
Tech workers with #NoTechForApartheid continue to call on Google and Google CEO @sundarpichai, who are fully complicit in fueling this AI-powered genocide, to drop this unethical contract. We say #NoTechForApartheid and #NoTechForGenocide; #DropProjectNimbus !

IN CASE U MISSED IT—At a @Google-sponsored conference to showcase & “support the Israeli tech sector” on March 4, a Google Cloud engineer & #NoTechForApartheid organizer disrupted @google Israel Managing Director’s talk on how to make Israel an “AI-driven nation.” In their brave disruption, the engineer cited their refusal to develop tech that powers the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza and Israeli apartheid. Almost 100 Google workers, NYC community, & members of the NYC #ShutItDown4Palestine coalition led by @nycpym rallied outside the conference to support the disruptions inside. 3 days later, Google HR terminated the @googlecloud engineer, citing the fact that the engineer “damaged” Google’s brand
The engineer was one of many Googlers who shared their anger at their employer’s sponsorship of the Mind The Tech conference—which featured several Israeli surveillance tech companies, NYC Mayor Eric Adams, Mayor of Jerusalem, & Israel’s Ambassador to the UN. Shortly before the conference, 600+ @google workers delivered a petition to leadership demanding that Google cut ties w/ Mind The Tech, highlighting their opposition to Project Nimbus, Google & Amazon’s $1B contract w/ the Israeli military & gov, & thru which the tech giants will provide sophisticated cloud & AI tech to Israel

In 2022, tech workers & community organized a #NoTechForApartheid day of action in 4 different tech hubs as a historic show of unity & solidarity among workers across companies that demand an end to tech’s role in the occupation & oppression of the Palestinian people and tech’s growing role in the US war machine

NEW—Statement from the #NoTechForApartheid Campaign on Google’s retaliation against and firing of Google Cloud Software Engineer who disrupted the Israeli AI and surveillance MindTheTech Conference:
On Monday, a brave Google Cloud engineer spoke up against the corporation’s complicity in Israel’s genocide against the Palestinian people. Our video of the worker standing up for their rights went viral, with some reposts reaching up to 8 million views and generating widespread global support, including from Palestinians in Gaza. Three days later, Google fired this worker.
Google has engaged in a clear cut act of retaliation against its own worker for speaking up about the terms and conditions of their labor.
This is the first immediate firing of a worker after a public, brave act of employee dissent against Project Nimbus, Google and Amazon’s shared $1.2 billion contract with the Israeli military and government. This is the second worker associated with the No Tech For Apartheid campaign that Google has retaliated against for organizing within their workplace.
Google’s aims are clear: The corporation is trying to silence workers to hide their moral failings. Google is enabling the world’s first AI-powered genocide through Project Nimbus. Through this contract, Google and Amazon are aiding and abetting the Israeli apartheid state and genocidal campaign in Gaza against Palestinians. Instead of cleaning up its own house, and dropping its contract with a genocidal regime, Google is punching down on its own workers. For almost three years, thousands of Google & Amazon workers have organized against the companies’ contracts with the Israeli government and military, with no response from management or executives.
As a Cloud Software Engineer working on critical technology that enables Project Nimbus to run on sovereign Israeli data centers, this worker spoke from a deep personal concern about the direct, violent impacts of their labor.
While terminating this worker, Google HR asked how they were feeling. The worker replied: “proud to be fired for refusing to be complicit in genocide”

BREAKING—@GOOGLE WORKERS WITH #NoTechForApartheid & NYC COMMUNITY PROTEST GOOGLE-SPONSORED ISRAELI TECH CONFERENCE where Eric Adams and the Mayor of Jerusalem are opening speakers.
It is appalling that @google is sponsoring a tech conference that is “emphasizing the importance of a united global tech community standing alongside Israel” while Israel carries out a genocide that’s killed over 30,000 Palestinians in Gaza, including over 13,000 children.
Workers and NYC community @nycpym @mpowerchange @jvpny @palawda @nyc4ceasefire @southasianleft @nycworkers4palestine will NOT allow business as usual while @Google continues to profit off of the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza. Workers and community are outside today in midtown protesting the conference and demanding that Google and Amazon drop Project Nimbus, a $1.2B contract that proves Cloud and AI technologies to the Israeli military and government. Both companies and their leadership are directly complicit in fueling the first AI-powered genocide.
Eric Adams’ attendance at an event where major Israeli surveillance tech companies are presenting and selling deeply concerning militarized and surveillance technology signifies his commitment to increasing NYC’s police budget and continuing to give political cover to Israel’s genocide of Palestinians in Gaza. While our NYC communities have dire need of housing, healthcare, and education, Eric Adams invests in police training exchange programs with the IOF and more surveillance tech to criminalize our communities.

Statement from Google and Amazon workers with the No Tech For Apartheid campaign on #AaronBushnell:
“As Israel’s genocide of Gaza rages on, a brave, young tech worker could no longer endure his complicity in genocide, and made a sacrifice of the highest order. Aaron Bushnell, a tech worker with the U.S. Air Force, set himself on fire in front of the Israeli Embassy in order to draw attention to the brutality Palestinians face each day under Israel’s genocidal campaign and apartheid regime.
Armed forces from the U.S. to Israel employ thousands of tech workers as military operations become more and more AI-driven. These operations are also powered by tech companies like Amazon and Google, which are enabling the world’s first AI-powered genocide committed by the Israeli military.
Before he died, Aaron made the following statement:
“I will no longer be complicit in genocide. I am about to engage in an extreme act of protest, but compared to what people have been experiencing in Palestine at the hands of their colonizers, it’s not extreme at all. This is what our ruling class has decided will be normal.”
As tech workers organizing against Amazon and Google’s $1.2 billion cloud computing contract with Israel, we honor the memory of Aaron Bushnell and his heroic act of protest.
We, along with tens of thousands of tech workers around the world, join Aaron in his refusal to be complicit and call for all tech workers of conscience to follow suit.
We will not stop organizing until our bosses at Amazon and Google stop providing technology to the genocidal Israeli apartheid government and military.
Rest in peace, Aaron Bushnell. We will keep fighting to ensure your act of martyrdom will not be in vain. “
