BDS 101 for Tech Workers Wednesday, Dec 13 @ 2pm PST / 5pm EST As the genocide in Gaza continues, Palestine liberation groups are calling for workers and consumers to Boycott / Divest / Sanction. In fact, just a few weeks ago, the official BDS Movement named Google, Amazon, Airbnb, and Booking.com as targets of the non-boycott campaign. What does that mean for tech workers? How does BDS work as a powerful form of solidarity and intervention for those of us in the United States/Europe? Join us for a discussion with Dov Baum, the Director of AFSC’s Economic Activism Program and the co-founder of Who Profits from the Occupation, to learn more about moving the money as a strategy. It takes just a minute to send @amazon @google CEOs @ajassy @sundarpichai an email to demand they cut Project Nimbus, the tech companies’ $1.2 BILLION contract with Israel. Take 30 seconds to demand accountability from the execs who signed on the dotted line for this contract and who continue to remain silent on Israel’s genocide in Gaza. Take action at notechforapartheid.con (quick link in our bio!) For example emails to send to your colleagues to join the strike, visit bit.ly/s4gaza. BREAKING—@theintercept profiled a #NoTechForApartheid worker organizer singled out by @Google HR for sharing a letter demanding Google stop powering Israel's genocide of Palestinians in Gaza. Despite multiple organizers sharing the letter internally, he was the only Muslim & Middle Easterner who circulated it & the only one @google HR questioned, asking him whether the letter was “justifying the terrorism on October 7th.” We condemn the systemic Islamophobia & anti-Palestinian racism running rampant at @google & unequivocally stand with workers courageously demanding #NoTechForApartheid. By stifling worker dissent, Google is evading accountability for enabling Israel’s genocide in Gaza. A Google spokesperson denied that the contract includes "military workloads," but @theintercept debunks that lie, highlighting that Nimbus training documents, an Israeli Ministry of Finance press release, & Israel's National Digital agency all confirm Project Nimbus' military applications. This exposé follows last week's open letter by Muslim, Palestinian & Arab Googlers detailing how Google leadership allowed dehumanizing, racist comments against Palestinians on official Google work platforms while managers used their rank to question & report Googlers who express empathy with Palestinians. @theintercept exposes add'l egregious examples like: "an Israeli Google employee repeatedly asking Middle Eastern colleagues if they support Hamas," "a Google engineer suggesting Palestinians worried about the welfare of their children should simply stop having kids," & another engineer calling Gazans "bloodthirsty animals.” Google's attempt to silence workers is only strengthening worker resolve to cut Project Nimbus.
